Consumer Reports: Scary Birth Control

When looking at the various types of birth control on the market, I really shouldn’t be horrified by Essure. I mean, is it really that much scarier than pumping yourself full of hormones so as to fool your body into thinking that it’s pregnant? Is it really that much scarier than spermicide? Is it really that much scarier than inserting a copper coil into your uterus to kill sperm? It shouldn’t be, but somehow Essure is very unsettling.

So, what is it? A coil made of metal is inserted into your fallopian tube, irritating the tissue there so that it closes up the fallopian tube with scar tissue. Perhaps this is better explained with a diagram?

There’s also a scary animation.

  1. The information given by this site is interesting.I know one thing that the Essure procedure is the first and only FDA approved female sterilization procedure to have zero pregnancies in the clinical trials. Therefore, you should be sure you do not want children in the future.
